Review and Acceptance of the SinoProbe Data Integration and Sharing Project

On December3,2014, China Geological Survey organized acceptance review for theproject“SinoProbe Data Integration and Sharing”(SinoProbe-08-02,public welfare scientific research project No.201011075)in Beijing. Before the acceptance review, data were submitted to the SinoProbe administration office and the Data Center for spot check.Third-party financial audit,achievement cataloging, achievement online publicizing,and preliminary review wascompleted as well.

On December 3, the acceptance review meeting was held in Beijing. The panel was composed of 13 academicians and experts in the fields of geology, mineral resources,physical geography,IT,and economy.Academician Li Tingdong acted as the leader of the panel.

Researcher GuanYe, director of the project, delivered a report and answered questions from panel. The panel reviewed the achievement reports,collected essays,special reports,source material,database management system, and visual software system. After serious review, the panel held that the research team completed the task specified in the assignment book and made new progress.

First, the research team developed metadata editor software,set a standard and procedure of SinoProbe data submission,which guided data submission of 49 subjects of 9 projects with an estimated data volume of over 20GB.    

Second, the research team developed the SinoProbe data warehouse(DW) and management system, and set up a platform of “SinoProbe data center”,featuring large storage,high-performance calculation,and rapid data acquisition, which is up to the international advanced level and provide a basis for data management, calculation, and sharing.

Third, the research team developed a 3D Web visual system based on 3DGIS SinoProbe data,full-space digital earth system SolidEarth, and 3D GIS interface software, which make it possible to conduct 3D visualization research on deep structures at a national scale and research on visualization of multivariate data.

The panel affirmed the achievements of “SinoProbe Data Integration and Sharing” and their five years’ hard work, spoke highly of the scientific achievements such as construction of the database system and visualization research, and put forward expectations for data sharing(DS) and development of new data(DW)of the SinoProbe data center. Researcher GuanYe answered all questions from the panel and talked about the thoughts on data sharing and new data development in the next step on behalf of the research team, which gained affirmation and good suggestion from the panel.
