Postgraduates Visit the Geological Museum of China
In order to enrich extracurricular activities and enhance understanding of basic knowledge of earth science and increase interest in probing into geosciences, the Postgraduates Union of Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences organized a visit to the Geological Museum of China. More than 50 postgraduates participated in this activity on 26th November 2016. Prof. He Zhefeng from the museum was invited to do the interpretation for all the students.
Led by Prof. He, the postgraduates watched the models for many geological phenomena including plate movement, fold and fault, volcano, and earthquake on the ground floor. On the second and third floor, there were showrooms for minerals, rocks, prehistoric lives and gemstones.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Geological Museum of China. It is lucky enough that students were admitted to visit a special memorial hall for celebrating the 100th anniversary on the 4th floor, where you can witness the top treasures of the Museum, including the fossil of Sinosauropteryx prima renowned at home and abroad, monomer crystal presented by Chairman Mao Zedong, and Tsavorite rare in the world.
Thanks to the strong support of the Geological Museum of China, this visit has gained a widely praise from students. They have impressed their satisfaction as it is conducive to not only gaining insights but also experiencing charm of earth science.
