On 29 April 2019, the delegation from the China Geological Survey (CGS) and the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS), headed by Prof. Dr. Yan Guangsheng, Chief Geoscientist of CGS and Vice President of CAGS visited the the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences.

Prof. Yan Guangsheng and Prof. Dr. Reinhard Hüttl, Scientific Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of the GFZ signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will further strengthen bilateral cooperation between CAGS and GFZ in deep earth exploration, geothermal energy, deep earth processes and deep drilling, geological information systems etc.

Scientists from CGS and GFZ held extensive and in-depth discussions on joint research work on the use of geothermal energy sources and the coordination of joint participation in the International Continental Deep Drilling Programme (ICDP).
