CAGS-GFZ Joint Virtual Workshop Successfully Held
CAGS-GFZ Joint Workshop was held via video link on November 27th, 2020. This workshop was jointly launched and organized by Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS) and German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) and was co-chaired by Prof. Lv Qingtian, Vice President of CAGS and Dr. Ludwig Stroink, Head of International Relations of GFZ. Prof. Dong Shuwen, the Principle Investigator of SinoProbe Center also joined in the Workshop. More than 40 experts from GFZ, CAGS, Land Satellite Remote Sensing Application Center of Ministry of Natural Resources, National Satellite Ocean Application Service and China Aero Geophysical Survey & Remote Sensing Center for Land and Resources of China Geological Survey participated in the Workshop.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding between German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) and Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS) signed in Potsdam in 2019 and the consensus that the two sides have reached through previous visits, experts from CAGS of GFZ have drafted a bilateral cooperative White Paper and determined cooperative fields before the Workshop. During the Workshop, Chinese and German experts gave presentations on 6 cooperative fields, namely “Earth CT” Science Program, Scientific Drilling Research and Development, Sediment hosted base metal deposits: a mineral systems approach, Deep Processes and Surface Systems Observation and Monitoring, Geothermal Energy Development and Demonstration and Satellite Remote Sensing and Geological Information System. Through full discussion, the two sides decided cooperative targets and missions and concrete plan for future cooperation.
During the Workshop, the two sides agreed to jointly apply international cooperative programs between Chinese and German governments and China-Germany natural science funding programs and promote young scientist exchanges through China Scholarship Council, German Academic Exchange Service and National post-doctor Regulatory Commission. After the Workshop, Chinese and German experts will continue their academic exchange and cooperation in the above mentioned 6 fields respectively.
