CAGS-VSEGEI Joint Workshop was held via video link on April 14th, 2021 under the framework of “the China-Russia Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation”. This workshop was jointly launched and organized by Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS) and Russian Geological Research Institute (VSEGEI). Dr. Li Jinfa, Vice President of China Geological Survey and Executive Vice President of CAGS and Dr. Eugeny Petrov, Deputy Head of Federal Agency on Mineral Resources of the Russian Federation (Rosnedra) delivered opening addresses respectively on behalf of the Chinese and Russian governments.

The Joint Workshop was co-chaired by Prof. Lv Qingtian, Vice President of CAGS and Prof. Oleg Petrov, Director General of VSEGEI. More than 40 experts from the SinoProbe Center, Institute of Geology, Institute of Geomechanics of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, VSEGEI and Rosnedra participated in the Workshop. Academician Li Tingdong and Prof. Dong Shuwen, the Principal Investigator of SinoProbe Center also joined in the Workshop.

The CAGS and VSEGEI experts conducted academic exchanges on the following fields: Earth CT” Big Science Program, the 1:2.5M Quaternary Geological Map of Central and Northeast Asia, the 1: 2.5 M Neotectonic Map of Central and East Asia, the 1:2.5 M Geological Map along the Great Cross Geotransect, the 1:1M geological mapping of the Great Altai region and upgrading the 1:2.5M Geological, Tectonic and Metallogenic Map of Northern, Central and Eastern Asia. 

The years of 2020 and 2021 were designated “the China-Russia Year of Scientific and Technological Innovation”. The Ministry of Natural Resources of China attaches great importance to the Chinese-Russian geoscience cooperation and has designated the bilateral cooperation in deep earth sciences and geological mapping as the key areas for future cooperation.
