On September 27^th ,  2022 , the ceremony to welcome Academician Hans Thybo was held at the new research base of Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS).  

Academician Hans Thybo is a world-renowned geophysicist. He is the Academician of both Academia Europaea and Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters and the President of International Lithosphere Program. In 2021, CAGS and the Lab signed a three-party employment contract with Academician Hans Thybo with employment term from January 1 ^st , 2022 to December 30^th , 2026. Following the principle of opening up, cooperating and making good use of international talent advantages, it is aimed to joining the world-famous experts in research team of the Lab, enhance scientific research and strategic research ability of the Lab, and finally promote international cooperation, planning, organizing and operating of Chinese major deep earth program.

Working together with Chinese colleagues, Academician Hans Thybo will carry out research in the fields of lithosphere evolution, lithosphere thermal structure balance and metallogenic system and relevant international comparative study. Meanwhile, Academician Hans Thybo will also instruct young researchers and doctoral students of the Lab and present a series of lectures and short-term training courses.

Prof. Ma Yan, Vice President of CAGS, made an welcoming address. Prof. Dong Shuwen, Principle Investigator of China MNR Lab of Deep Earth Science and Technology (the Lab), introduced the major academic achievements of Hans Thybo and research plan in near future. Prof. Lyu Qingtian, Vice President of CAGS, introduced the developing history of CAGS and the operation of the Lab. More than 30 colleagues from relevant administrative and research departments and labs of CAGS attended the welcome ceremony.
