President of the International Union of Geological Sciences, Hassina Mouri, Visits Our Institute
During her participation in the International Symposium on Deep Earth Exploration and Practice (DEEP-2024), Hassina Mouri, President of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), visited our institute on October 24, 2024. She expressed her gratitude for the strong support our institute has provided to the IUGS’s work. She also held a discussion with the institute's Party Secretary and Vice President, Wu Dengding. During her visit, Hassina Mouri toured the Sino Probe Lab of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Beijing SHRIMP Center. She was accompanied by Academician Hou Zengqian, Director of the SinoProbe Lab; Dr. Dong Shuwen, Chief Scientist of the SinoProbe Lab; and Wei Yanguang, Vice President and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of our institute.
At the SinoProbe Lab, Hassina Mouri visited an exhibition on deep Earth exploration achievements. She was briefed on the progress and milestones of deep Earth exploration research in China, as well as major projects in mineral resource exploration. She highly praised China’s theoretical and technical breakthroughs in deep Earth exploration. She also expressed her commitment to mobilizing relevant affiliated organizations and professional committees within the IUGS to join the international collaboration network for deep Earth exploration.
At the Beijing SHRIMP Center, Hassina Mouri visited the center's high-sensitivity, high-resolution secondary ion mass spectrometer and atomic probe tomography microscope. She also observed the development of China's high-resolution ion probe mass spectrometer. During her visit, she met with Dr. Liu Dunyi’s research team to discuss future collaboration in isotope analysis and testing. She expressed her high expectations for their future scientific research cooperation.
Hassina Mouri is a professor in the Department of Geology at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. She has held positions in several international organizations, including the IUGS, UNESCO, the International Medical Geology Association, and the International Council for Science. She was elected as the new president of the International Union of Geological Sciences in August 2024.
