In celebration of the 46th anniversary of Earth Day, Academician Xu Zhiqin, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Continental Tectonics and Dynamics, the Institute of Geology, CAGS gave a popular science lecture entitled A Song Devoted to Mother Earth－Life of the Earth on April 22, 2015, with a view to improving the general public’s knowledge of the Earth and awareness of environmental protection.

With simple and vivid language, Academician Xu Zhiqin introduced to the audience the evolution of the Earth, a variety of the geologic landforms together with their formation mechanisms, and the theory of plate tectonics. Meanwhile, she encouraged the young geoscientists to devote themselves to geoscientific research and scale new heights in the development of geosciences. The presentation was followed by very active question-and-answer interactions.

The lecture was chaired by Prof. Wang Ruijing, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and attracted over one hundred participants.
