The Second Asian Trans-Disciplinary Karst Conference 2015 Held in Hubei
The Second Asian Trans-Disciplinary Karst Conference 2015 was held in Lichuan City, Hubei Province of China on November 6-8, 2015, bringing together over 180 delegates from 22 countries and regions in Asia and Europe. Exchanges and discussions were carried out on a wide range of topics focusing on karst environment, cave formation, cave exploration and survey methodology, development, protection and management of karst landscape, as well as bio- and eco-system.
The conference was sponsored by the International Union of Speleology and China Geological Survey (CGS), and organized by the Institute of Karst Geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGS), International Research Center on Karst under the auspices of UNESCO and the People’s Government of Lichuan City, Hubei Province.
Over 50 oral presentations were given during the conference, focusing on scientific exploration of caves across the globe and particularly in Asia. Training courses and seminars were organized during the conference on cave exploration technologies, including paperless cave measurement technology, cave exploration nail climbing technology, cave photography etc. Field trips were organized to Tenglong Cave, Sanlongmen Cave and Yulong Cave.
The Asian Trans-Disciplinary Karst Conference is a regional academic conference in karst geology and held every four years. The first conference of this kind was organized in Indonesia.
