This laboratory is supported by the Institute of Geology, CAGS and addresses the following major research tasks: developing important basic theories on stratigraphy and paleontology, solving crucial stratigraphic and paleontologic problems in land and resources investigation, developing new technical and method systems, conducting research covering early life evolution, biologic and geological environment changes, and dating and correlation of major strata.

In 2013, 26 academic papers were published with this laboratory or its correspondent as the first author, including 1 paper in Science and 14 papers in scientific periodicals indexed by SCI. One monograph was published.
